Limbrick Wood Primary School

Learning and Growing Together

Welcome

Curriculum

Subject Overviews and Key Documentation:

The curriculum for each subject is mapped out in key documentation which can be viewed below. These documents set out what children should know and be able to do by the end of each term and how their learning will progress as they move through the school.

Key concepts and subject specific skills are revisited regularly throughout the curriculum journey so that children have opportunities to make links and build on prior learning.

Year Groups may link different areas of learning within topics, while other elements may be taught discretely.

Phonics

At Limbrick Wood, children in Early Years and Key Stage One follow the Read, Write, Inc phonics programme. It teaches children the sounds in English, the letters that represent them, and how to form the letters when writing. Read Write Inc. Phonics includes reading books written using only the sounds they have learnt at each level (and a small number of separately taught tricky words). Children are assessed every half term to ensure they are making progress, placed in their correct groups, have reading books which match their sound knowledge level and interventions set to help all children keep up. All new children to the school are assessed when they arrive to ensure they have the correct sound knowledge for their age. The use of Read, Write, Inc resources are then used throughout Key Stage Two to help children retain their knowledge and build on their spelling rules.

PSHE & RSHE

At Limbrick Wood Primary School we aim to provide children with the knowledge, understanding, attitudes, values and skills they need in order to reach their potential as individuals and within the community. Children are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across the curriculum, contributing fully to the life of their school and communities. In doing so, they learn to recognise their own worth, work well with others and become increasingly responsible for their own learning and to become active and not passive in their learning. We encourage our children to reflect on their experiences and understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.

We intend for our children to learn to understand and respect our common humanity; diversity and differences so that they can go on to form the effective, fulfilling relationships that are an essential part of life and learning.

As a school we ensure that all pupils are receiving this entitlement by following the Jigsaw Programme. We are confident that the Jigsaw Programme covers all aspects of Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) within the context of a full PSHE programme in an age-appropriate way.

The aim of Religious Education at Limbrick Wood Primary School is to reflect the principal aim which is set out in the Coventry and Warwickshire agreed syllabus.

Please be aware, parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education (RE). To exercise this right, please contact the school office or Class Teacher in writing.
